The post, 1st Graders Create Their Own Read-Along Audiobook by Silvia Rosenthal Tolisano, reminds me a lot of the old read along cassette tapes I use to get from the library. I think is very similar to that, because on the cassette tape it too also had sounds to indicate to turn the page or the end of a chapter. Tolisano is doing a nice job in keeping that cassette tape read along thing but using it on modern day technology. Flat Stanley Podcast was awesome, and it was done by first graders. Ms. Tolisano and her first grade class did a great job expressing energy while they read, because it made the podcast sound fun and interesting. This makes the students more interested in their work and does a great job in keeping the students attention.
The video, Benefits of podcasting in the classroom by Joe, was excellent. Joe did a wonderful job in showing us the benefits of podcast and the different types of podcasting. The greatest thing I love about podcast is the fact that you can access it anywhere at any time, and if you mess school all you have to do is pull up the podcast.
I learn to be bring energy to my podcast, because being energetic can make all the difference. No one wants to listen to someone sounding like Ben Stein; the guy who did the Clear Eyes commercials. I know when making my podcast with energy can make the listeners believe I’m really interested in what I’m doing not like someone is forcing me to do it.
Keilan, I think you did well with this fourth post. I liked how you compared the modern day technology with the cassette players from the past. I also agree with you on the fact that these kids must incorporate enthusiasm into their podcast if they really want to do well, and most do.

ReplyDeleteThis is a good post, but I think you could have expanded on it more. Do you think you might use this in your classroom? If so, what do you think is more effective; video, or audio podcasts. If you don't think you would use podcasts, why not?

ReplyDeleteLike I said in my comment to your sentence video, I have been assigned to you this week. I am a former high school History teacher. I also coached volleyball and softball. I start graduate school at South in the Fall, but I had to renew my certificate this Summer.
Hope you are having a great weekend! I enjoyed your post and how positive you sound. It's always nice to see future teachers with such a positive outlook. You were head-on with your comment about enthusiasm. Students always respond better to a teacher that speaks and instructs with enthusiasm. I agree with your comparison with the Read Along Audio books and books on CD. I thought the exact same thing, but isn't it so much more elaborate compared to what we had growing up? The fact that the first graders made them adds so much pride, and pride means a lot in academics. It really instills a greater love for learning.
It's funny that you brought up the monotone voice of the great Ben Stein, but his voice is part of his humor. Where were your pictures? Visual appeal and spoken enthusiasm go hand in hand, don't you think? Watch your simple spelling...looks like you got a little carried away. Sorry, that's the Grammar Nazi in me...I also have a minor in English. I taught that for two years.
